Finding Creativity with a Digital Medium

Ok, I've had this argument with myself many times..."Is digital art organic or just a mechanical process of points, clicks and swipes for the new generation?" Well I decided to give it a try and see what it was all about. Join me on my discovery and how I found a new medium in the digital world.

As with most traditional artists I was always organic in my approach to art...brush, paint, canvas. Simple, direct and challenging your inner creative. This sequence was all disrupted when my millennial son showed me his new iPad and art pencil. I immediately thought "This is cool, but it's not my kind of art". He insisted on showing me the programs and the process of the digital age. I agreed to try it out and honestly I found it very intriguing and thought it might be a useful tool.

Now I've had all the Adobe classes and I have a good grasp of what the whole digital art world is. I still was resisting the commitment to give in. "Stand firm, art must be created with dirty hands", or something like that. I felt the digital world was great for graphics and greeting cards.

Until...I decided that I wanted to get into a bit more free flowing, even an abstract style of art.

From some of my digital works you can see that I'm keeping it more organic in style. Still not willing to completely give into the graphics approach. I feel after using this on a daily basis I've achieved above average results. Finding it has more than helped with my need to free my mind and open my imagination from the structures of realism.

My results I hope have helped you 'find' a new approach to art and the challenges of inspiration. This is a quick and easy way to have a creative outlet and feel like you are releasing a part of you to the world. You don't need to invest in the pencil right away, use your 'organic' brush/pencil...your finger, to get started and get a feel for the digital art world. You don't have to be exceptional, just creative.
